After her death the property became his and he raised his family in this house. On 1 March 1988 the house burned. It is believed the fire was started by ash that contained smoldering coals that had been removed from the fireplace and placed around their rose bushes for fertilizer. The coals caught some leaves on fire and the leaves blew into an open basement window. Eldon was home with his grandson Anthony when the fire alarms went off. They looked into the basement and saw the fire and fled the house. They house was raised and a new house was built in it's place. LOCATION OF THIS PROPERTY!!! As a young man he boxed in high school. When he was in his 20's he would drive younger boys to Winston/Salem to watch wrestling and boxing matches. Eldon had numerous jobs throughout his life. He worked for Fuller Hair Care Products and sold hair brushes and the like in Winston/Salem. He worked in an airplane factory in Baltimore during WWII. He, his brother Len and Len's wife, and their mother Mary had all moved there to find work during the war. He and his brother were self taught carpenters who worked wood with their hands. Eldon did carpentry work on the side while he worked as an upholsterer at Key City Furniture. In September of 1967 he had a heart attach. His doctors told him he couldn't work any more.
