38. Leo⁴ Nufer (Antoinette³ Deutsch, Fredrick², Michael¹) was born Hoisington, Kansas 16 September 1918. Leo died 31 August 1998 Dodge City, Kansas, at 79 years of age. His body was interred 4 September 1998 Dodge City, Kansas, Maple Grove Cemetery.

He married Regina Johanna Smith Wichita, Kansas, 26 October 1939.⁽¹⁾ The following individual is also linked to this event: Arthur Holtz (priest). Grandma and Grandpa had to elope to Wichita to get married. They tried to get married in Dodge City or Spearville but Grandpa was Lutheran. The priest did not believe in mixed marriages so he would not marry them.

Regina was born Spearville, Kansas 7 May 1917. Regina is the daughter of Andrew M. Smith and Mary Elizabeth Tepe.

He was baptized 16 April 1957. Religion: Catholic. Leo received first communion 17 April 1957. Leo was confirmed at 39 years of age 9 March 1958.

Leo Nufer and Regina Johanna Smith had the following children:

+ 73 i. Leonard Dean⁵ Nufer was born 1 June 1940.

74 ii. Clara Marie Nufer was born Dodge City, Kansas 20 May 1942. She was baptized Dodge City, Kansas, 24 May 1942. Religion: Catholic. Clara received first communion Dodge City, Kansas, 1 April 1951. Clara was confirmed at 9 years of age Dodge City, Kansas, 4 November 1951.

+ 75 iii. Annetta Louise Nufer was born 4 December 1943.

76 iv. James Leo Nufer was born Dodge City, Kansas 6 November 1947. James died 11 March 1968 Vietnam, at 20 years of age. The military originally said he was riding in a jeep when it ran over a land mine. But recently one of the guys in his platoon came to visit grandma & grandpa (his parents). He said that Company B came under fire and Jim was killed by a mortar shell while lugging ammunition back to his fellow soldiers. The helicopters had dropped it as close as they could and Jim was sent to pick it up.
